Description

The construction project is part of the overall Albvorland Tunnel project of the Wendlingen – Ulm railway new construction line and includes the construction of the single-track branch line “Freight Train Connection”. The freight train connection serves to connect the NBS to the existing Neckartalbahn (Stuttgart-Tübingen).
The freight train connection is a total of 739.0 m long and, starting from the beginning of the route in the junction structure, consists of a 196.0 m long conventional tunnel, a deep cut directly next to the highway, a 170.0 m long conventional tunnel directly under the highway and a 53.0 m long groundwater trough.
In addition to the execution planning of the tunnel and engineering structures, sections were planned using the BIM method.

Special features

  • Shotcrete excavation under the highway with a shallow overburden of only 3.0 m under the protection of extensive safety measures
  • Extensive analytical verifications for the fire load case
  • Creation of variant studies for future expansion of the highway
  • Processing of a sub-area using the BIM method
